An ex-Canadiens player as GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Following an extremely disappointing season by the standards of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the organization has undergone a major shake-up in its management, dismissing the President of Hockey Operations, the General Manager, and the Assistant General Manager.

This opens up several crucial hiring opportunities for the team, which aims to return to the playoffs after ending its streak of 15 consecutive postseason appearances.

One of the first hires is likely to be the GM, and there is an ex-Montreal Canadiens player in the running for the position. Mathieu Darche, currently serving as an assistant to Julien BriseBois with the Tampa Bay Lightning, is a serious candidate to become the new manager of the Penguins.

According to rumors circulating within NHL circles, unless there's a sudden turn of events, he is competing against Marc Bergevin, the former GM of the Canadiens, and a certain Kyle Dubas, who recently left his position with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The competition appears to be currently between these three names in Pittsburgh. The upcoming weeks promise to be fascinating to follow.

In addition to Daniel Brière, who was recently confirmed in his position with the Philadelphia Flyers, it would be very interesting to see another Quebecer making their entry into the National Hockey League as a GM.
