Could the Canadiens have found their goaltender of the future? Three young prospects, including a future phenomenon, are reportedly being targeted by the organization

Although there are many discussions about the player the Canadiens will select at the 5th rank, it should not be forgotten that the organization also holds the Florida Panthers' first round pick.

If many fans were hoping to end up with the 17th overall pick, the Panthers' playoff success may force the Habs to draft between 29th and 32nd overall, which could significantly change the organization's strategy.

Former Canadiens goaltending coach Stéphane Waite made a very interesting proposal during his appearance on the Sortie de Zone podcast. He mentioned that Kent Hughes should select a goaltender at the end of the first round, mentioning three names that could greatly improve the Habs' situation in net.

"Now, it's time for projects! It's time to draft a goaltender we know will play in the NHL. I can even give you three names that the Canadiens should target at the end of the first round. Carson Bjarnason, Michael Hrabal, and Alexander Hellnemo."

Even if Jake Allen, Samuel Montembeault, and Cayden Primeau are all under contract with the Habs, a quality prospect could certainly help the team's depth at that position.

Of course, this would be a long-term project as none of the three goaltenders mentioned by Stephan Waite are ready to make the jump to the NHL. However, the fact that Allen, Montembeault, and Primeau are signed would give the selected goaltender time to develop before joining the big club.

Michael Hrabal is seen by many experts as the best goaltender of the 2023 draft class. At just 18 years old, the Czech is a 6'6" and 215-pound monster. He could, without a doubt, be the number one goaltender the organization has been looking for.
