Incredible acquisition: Kent Hughes and the Canadiens have acquired the best goalie from non-professional leagues with Jacob Fowler

Just a few months ago, the Canadiens' goaltending future looked uncertain. To address the situation, the team selected three goaltenders in the June draft.

The 3rd-round pick, Jacob Fowler, stands out as a particularly strong choice. So much so that he is perceived as the best non-professional prospect at this position. Coming from Pierre McGuire, who doesn't cover the Canadiens' activities, this is quite significant.

"I think a lot of good things are happening in Montreal right now. In fact, they may have the best goaltending prospect outside of the professional ranks. It's a young man named Jacob Fowler who plays for Boston College. If you haven't had a chance to see him in action, go watch this young man, he's the real deal, an extraordinary prospect."

That's pretty clear. Fowler is taking his first steps in the NCAA at the age of 18, and he's excelling in every aspect. In 12 games with Boston College, he has a record of 9-2-1 with a 2.14 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.

These are numbers worthy of the best goaltenders in all of NCAA, and he's a rookie, imagine that.

The Canadiens truly have a gem in the goaltender position in their organization, and they will need to develop him properly to potentially have Carey Price's successor.

IN YOUR OPINION, IS HAVING A NUMBER ONE GOALTENDER STILL RELEVANT IN THE NHL, WHICH IS INCREASINGLY TRENDING TOWARDS SHARING THE WORKLOAD BETWEEN TWO CAPABLE GOALIES?
