Jonathan Drouin to Colorado: The GM had a crucial decision to make, and he apparently got it wrong
Colorado GM Chris MacFarland faced a significant decision. He could sign Drouin at a discount and hope for a surprising resurgence in production or extend the contract of Evan Rodrigues, who had amassed 39 points in 69 games.
Rodrigues ultimately signed a four-year deal worth a total of 12 million with the Panthers, where he has notched 13 points in 14 games this season. At 3 million per year, it's a bargain.
Drouin, on the other hand, is playing a similar role to Rodrigues last year but has only managed two points in 11 games and has been a healthy scratch on occasion.
The season is still young, and Drouin can still turn things around, but for now, MacFarland may be regretting his decision, especially considering Rodrigues came at such a low cost.
