Major development in the Montreal Canadiens' goaltending situation

Everyone knows it, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens need to trade a goaltender, and they needed to do it yesterday. The situation is quite problematic and challenging for everyone to handle.

Indeed, one could say that this situation has been lingering, and many are still wondering why it hasn't been resolved. According to Elliotte Friedman, the reason is quite simple and perfectly logical.

"The Montreal Canadiens would like to resolve the infamous three-goaltender situation soon. One of the ways they believe they can proceed to solve this problem is by keeping Montembeault. This would give them more certainty because if they keep Montembeault, they can then decide what they want to do with the other two, whether they keep Primeau or Allen."

When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Why risk trading a goaltender when the team hasn't yet signed ? Imagine a scenario where Allen or Primeau is traded, and then Samuel decides to test the market this summer.

Moreover, if Kent Hughes trades a goaltender before signing Sam, it would give his agent additional negotiating power. The goal is to find a fair agreement for both parties.

According to Friedman and also Arpon Basu, negotiations are going well between the two parties, and it could be resolved very soon.
