Monster acquisition for the Montreal Canadiens: Kent Hughes and his scouting team drafted a gem in Lane Hutson

The more we see him play, the more Lane Hutson is making headlines for the right reasons. He is currently compared to Adam Fox, which is far from ordinary, as Fox is one of the best defensemen in the NHL for several years.

At the time of his selection at the 62nd overall pick, Hutson measured 5'7" and weighed 143 lbs. For a defenseman, that raised two big red flags. However, a medical condition means that the young player is developing physically later.

Today, it is said that Lane is 5'10" and 160 lbs. If he had had this build a year and a half ago, he would have been a top-three pick.

"If Lane Hutson had been two inches taller and twenty pounds heavier at the draft, he would have been a top-3 pick." - Kyle Woodlief

This is a significant statement, especially considering that Hutson was selected at the 62nd overall pick. According to Eric Engels, he could even be the best player in this draft, surpassing Juraj Slafkovsky.

"I think the best player in the 2022 draft was chosen 62nd overall [Lane Hutson]. I believe that could become a reality." - Eric Engels

If it really happens, Nick Bobrov deserves congratulations. The Canadiens' Co-Director of Scouting is the one who convinced everyone to select Hutson. Tony Marinaro even mentioned that if Hutson truly became the best of his draft class, Bobrov would deserve his statue alongside Maurice Richard and the other legends of the club.
