For several weeks, it's been known that Martin Necas is linked to the Canadiens and several other NHL teams, but nothing has moved yet.

The Hurricanes have been clear in their stance: they want established players who can help them now in exchange for Necas. Therefore, it's not too surprising that the draft went by without any trade announcement.

Eligible to sign an offer sheet, Necas has made his decision and has chosen not to turn his back on the Hurricanes in this way. He has opted for salary arbitration for his next contract, effectively ruling out this option.

"This means Necas is no longer eligible to sign a offer sheet.

We discussed this possibility in recent weeks... And evidently, we need to forget about this scenario.

Note that Necas could reach an agreement with the Hurricanes before going to arbitration." - Marc-Olivier Cook

So, an offer sheet is no longer possible, but Necas can still come to terms with the Hurricanes before arbitration, and he can also be traded.

The Hurricanes have decided not to back down. They are asking for a significant return for their forward and will hold out for it, otherwise, they will refuse to trade him, even if he has requested a trade.
