Corey Perry had to leave the Los Angeles Kings, and it hits hard.

On Wednesday, the forward was not with the group as he dealt with a personal situation. According to what is circulating, he returned home due to an illness in his family. In moments like these, the NHL clearly comes second.
It quickly brings back a simple truth. The schedule is packed and games keep coming. Hockey can wait, even when the season is in full swing.
In Montreal, his name still draws reactions. Perry wore the Montreal Canadiens jersey and left memories with the fans. He is not the kind of player you forget, especially when the news is this human.

Corey Perry and the off-ice reality

"Kings F Corey Perry has returned home to deal with an illness of a family member, prompting his non-roster designation."

- Dennis Berstein
The Kings, for their part, must deal with an absence, regardless of its length. The locker room knows how to respond when a teammate is going through something heavy. There is less talk about systems and more about respect, support, and simple messages.
Perry is 40 years old. He was born on May 16, 1985, in Peterborough, Ontario. He signed with Los Angeles on July 1, 2025, a one-year contract worth $2 million, with the possibility of bonuses. His number 10 is already clearly visible in the Kings' lineup.
What stands out today is not a stretch of games. It is the fact that a veteran known throughout the league is putting everything on pause for a loved one. Hockey is big, but family is everything.
Above all, we hope that health returns quickly and that the situation settles. Perry will come back when he can, and no one should ask more of him than that.
