A few weeks ago, Kent Hughes signed a two-year contract with the young Jakub Dobes. Since then, Dobes has joined the Laval Rocket organization to familiarize himself with the world of professional hockey. Although he has not yet played a game in the AHL, he will gain experience.

The departure of Carey Price and the uncertainties surrounding Cayden Primeau suggest that the club's management is looking for an exceptional goaltender for the future of the organization. If Jakub Dobes does not meet their expectations, they will have to look elsewhere. However, it seems that Kent Hughes recently made a mistake in managing goaltenders, which prevented him from recruiting a young and talented local prospect for his team. This error could be detrimental to the organization's future.

As pointed out by JB Gagné from the website DLC, the Canadiens could have landed the young Quebecer goaltender Yaniv Perets.

In the end, this young prospect turned to the Carolina Hurricanes, as Kent Hughes could not offer him a two-way contract (for the NHL and AHL).

This 23-year-old player from Dollard-des-Ormeaux had an excellent NCAA season with Quinnipiac University, posting an impressive 1.17 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in 31 games. These performances earned him the title of ECAC Conference Player of the Year.

The reason why the Habs only offered an uninteresting contract is likely due to the contract extension given last summer to Jake Allen by Kent Hughes, a major decision at the time.

Indeed, the decision to extend Jake Allen's contract now seems less wise, as the veteran goaltender's performances are leaving much to be desired.

With Allen under contract for the next two seasons at a salary of $3.85 million, Samuel Montembeault with a $1 million contract for an additional season, and Cayden Primeau facing waivers next season, Kent Hughes has little room to maneuver.

Unless there is a surprise trade involving Jake Allen, who, moreover, has lost the favor of the fans, it is difficult to improve the goaltender position in the short/medium term. The only option would be to rely on the emergence of Cayden Primeau and the future performances of Jakub Dobes.
