In the last few minutes, we have just learned some rather surprising news via Elliotte Friedman. Indeed, the Philadelphia Flyers have placed 28-year-old goaltender, Cal Petersen, on waivers.
Acquired this summer in the trade involving Ivan Provorov, many observers believed that the former Los Angeles Kings netminder would back up Carter Hart this season, while also providing an interesting option for John Tortorella if the Flyers' number one ever gets involved in the infamous Team Canada Junior scandal.
However, the goaltender, who has a salary of five million dollars for the next two seasons, is apparently not in the organization's plans. Therefore, he could be claimed for free by any NHL team in the next 24 hours.
Since joining the NHL, Cal Petersen has accumulated a record of 44 wins, 42 losses, and 10 overtime losses with the Kings. He also recorded a save percentage of .905 and a goals-against average of 2.92.
