Breaking development regarding prospect Will Smith and it could have a major impact on the Canadiens' choice
Over the past few days, journalist Sheng Peng from San Jose Hockey Now revealed that the Sharks' General Manager, Mike Grier, was highly interested in selecting American center player, Will Smith, with the 4th pick in the draft.
Moreover, the organization has made a significant gesture towards the 18-year-old prospect that undoubtedly attests to the interest the Californian team has in him. Indeed, Will Smith is the only prospect to have been given a guided tour of the city of San Jose.

Unfortunately for fans hoping to see him in the Canadiens' uniform, Will Smith seems more and more likely to head towards the San Jose Sharks. If Kent Hughes is unable to execute a trade to move up a rank or two, one can start to write off the idea of seeing Smith landing in Montreal.
However, if such a scenario occurs, it would probably mean that Matvei Michkov will still be available at the 5th pick. We repeat, but a player as talented and with as high a potential as Michkov is usually never available after the first four picks of the draft. The Canadiens would literally have a chance to get their hands on a future NHL star who could possibly score 50 goals per season.
Let's just hope that the top brass of the Tricolore will select the most talented player at the 5th pick!
