Jonathan Drouin's contract expires this summer and it's no longer a secret to anyone that the Quebecer has likely played his last match in the Canadiens' uniform. The forward never managed to live up to expectations when Marc Bergevin acquired him in exchange for Mikhail Sergachev.
In 398 games with the Canadiens, Jonathan Drouin collected 239 points, significantly slowing down over the past four seasons due to multiple injuries. Unfortunately for the organization, the 28-year-old forward never established himself as the high-caliber player the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge thought they were getting.
There's no doubt that a change of scenery could greatly benefit him as he tries to revive his career with a new team next year.
Ewan Rewall of Colorado Hockey Now, as well as Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now have both suggested the possibility of Jonathan Drouin joining his former Halifax Mooseheads teammate, Nathan MacKinnon, with the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche will undoubtedly need to add depth to their offense to make up for the loss of their captain, Gabriel Landeskog, who may miss the entire season. Moreover, there are still numerous questions surrounding Valeri Nichushkin's situation. It wouldn't be surprising if the forward misses several games.
When Ewan Rewall asked Marco D'Amico if Jonathan Drouin would be a good fit with Colorado, here's the Montreal Hockey Now columnist's response:
"On a low value, one-year deal in another market with less pressure and an established core, he could likely thrive and be a very solid complimentary player."
