After the fourth goal, Allen was replaced by Samuel Montembeault, and it worked. The Habs got back into the game but ultimately lost 5-3.
The four goals can't all be attributed solely to Jake Allen; the entire team needed to play better in front of him. However, changing the goaltender is a way to try to spark a turnaround, and clearly, Allen is aware of that.
When asked about his removal in the first period, the goalie had some very insightful comments, reminiscent of the greatest leaders:
It's true that seeing a goalie storm off to the locker room or sulk on the bench doesn't present a positive image of team spirit. Kudos to Jake for his leadership and these comments. Many other athletes could take a page from his book.
