The Canadiens have shown interest in extending Samuel Montembeault's contract, but negotiations seem to be progressing a bit slowly.
"It affects me a bit, but I'm just trying to focus on my game right now. Last year was the first time I signed for two years, so every year before that, I always had a one-year contract. But once you're a UFA, you never know what's going to happen, and I've never been in this situation. If I play well, things will work themselves out."

With a record of 3-2-1, a 2.89 goals-against average, and a 0.905 save percentage, considering the team let him down in his two losses, Montembeault is having a very good start to the season. However, there is speculation about the possibility of the organization trading him.
Renaud Lavoie made an interesting connection that suggests Montembeault has a good chance of staying put.
"There's something you saw on our airwaves over the weekend. This [Montembeault's] ad with IGA. IGA is a major sponsor for the Canadiens. You have to make associations."
- Renaud Lavoie
This association speaks volumes. A team's official sponsor would probably not make an announcement with a player who is leaving in the coming months; that would be absurd.
