Alexandre Texier is turning heads in Montreal after being overlooked in St. Louis
Alexandre Texier's rise in Montreal is still generating plenty of buzz.
On X, Anthony Martineau shared a statistic that really stands out. Since joining the Habs, Texier has reportedly been the team's top scorer at 5-on-5 among forwards. And the part that stings the most is the contrast with the St. Louis Blues.
The Canadiens signed him to a one-year contract worth $1 million. He had just become an unrestricted free agent after the termination of his deal with the Blues.
From Overlooked in St. Louis to Impact Player in Montreal
In an NHL article, his recent context in St. Louis is also recalled. This season with the Blues, he played eight games and recorded one assist. Last year, still in St. Louis, he appeared in 31 games, posting six goals and five assists.
Excellent piece by journalist Anthony Martineau below:

"From day one, there was no relationship between Texier and the coaches or the GM. He would find out when he walked into the locker room that he wasn't playing that night. When he did play, it was scraps. And he never got any explanation when he asked why. They simply didn't want to engage with him. I can 100% understand why he wasn't at his best there." - Via Anthony Martineau
What makes the situation even more intriguing is the body of work he had already accumulated before Montreal. Texier had played 240 NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Blues, totaling 91 points. That includes 40 goals and 51 assists. He was drafted in the second round, 45th overall, in 2017.
In Montreal, this kind of story catches on quickly, especially when it involves 5-on-5 play. A short, affordable contract and a player who finds a way to produce gets everyone excited. It's the type of situation that can change the tone of a season in just a few shifts.
And while the phrase "treated like nothing" is harsh, it captures the feeling well. Canadiens fans love it when a player arrives with something to prove. Put simply: Texier is forcing people to eat their words.
