Blake Coleman with the Montreal Canadiens-that's been getting a lot of people talking today.

The idea is resurfacing because the Habs are looking for reinforcements, but also energy. We're talking about an established forward, always active, who is currently playing in Calgary.
Coleman was drafted 75th overall in 2011 and eventually carved out a spot in the NHL. In his first true full season, in 2017-2018, he recorded 25 points in 79 games. The following year, he reached the 22-goal mark in 78 games.
He also has a profile that's easy to sum up with facts, not promises. He stands 5 ft 11 in, weighs 199 lb, and was born on November 28, 1991. That fits the image of a player who doesn't go unnoticed in a lineup.

The Case for Blake Coleman Is Clear - But the Cost and Roster Fit Raise Real Questions

Coleman could be an intriguing option for the Canadiens; however, his fit on the roster may come at a forward's expense.
"I understand why the Canadiens want Blake Coleman from the Flames, but once Anderson, Dach, Laine, Newhook are healthy... Canadiens

A) Have too many players already.

B) Any trade for Coleman would need to involve substantial salary going the other way + Struble + prospect/pick."
When it comes to the playoffs, his numbers in Tampa Bay carry significant weight in the discussion. In 2020, he recorded 13 points in 25 playoff games, including 5 goals and 8 assists. The following year, he added 11 points in 23 games, with 3 goals and 8 assists.
Over his two postseasons with the Lightning, that totals 8 goals, 16 assists, and 24 points. And in terms of penalty minutes, we're talking about 31 and then 22, for a total of 53.
"Would you want Blake Coleman on the Habs and does he brings the toughness we need to be competitive in the playoffs" - HFTV
Another detail that fits with Montreal: Coleman has already scored several insurance goals in the Stanley Cup Final. That doesn't mean it would happen again here, but it explains why his name keeps coming up when the conversation turns to the playoffs.
