It turns out that Kent Hughes ultimately refused at the last minute, while the Ducks were waiting for confirmation. The Canadiens would have sacrificed Logan Mailloux.
If we recall correctly, Kent Hughes made a phone call while waiting for the 21st overall pick. It was so obvious that he was canceling a trade offer, and we immediately thought it was for Rutger McGroarty.
It's quite possible that the recipient of that call was the Ducks' GM, and that the Canadiens refused the trade because Michael Hage was still available.
There's a lot of speculation, but one thing is certain: Trevor Zegras almost ended up in Montreal via trade on June 28.
However, nothing is finalized yet. If Kent Hughes wanted to offer Mailloux and a late first-round pick for Zegras and a second-round pick, it's possible that a similar deal could still be made.
Only time will tell!
