Laval Rocket goalie Jacob Fowler confronts referee after controversial goal call
A scene full of frustration for Jacob Fowler as a controversial goal changed the ending of the Laval Rocket's game against the Syracuse Crunch.
A crazy scene last night!
The Rocket thought they had control, but everything changed in a single sequence. Jacob Fowler fell in his crease and the puck ended up in the net on a play that many believe was questionable.
The score was still close, but the young goalie's frustration exploded.
Indeed, early in the third period, with the score tied 1-1,
Mitchell Chaffee scored on the power play.
Fowler believed he had been obstructed. He immediately complained to the referees, visibly angry. I've never seen him like that.
On the replay, you can see contact in front of the net.
The referees judged it an accident and that the goal should count.
Here's the scene described by Anthony Marcotte:
"Jacob Fowler and Pascal Vincent are furious after a power-play goal conceded to the Crunch. The goalie was disrupted by a stick. Referee Mathieu Menniti got an earful. The RDS cameras captured the coach's words perfectly!"
- Anthony Marcotte
The storm wasn't over for Laval in a very intense game
Here's the scene where you can see young Fowler in full frustration:
Fortunately,
William Trudeau quickly tied the score. But Syracuse regained the lead late in the game, on a shot that Fowler didn't see at all.
Despite the loss, he was solid with 24 saves. I love seeing that energy. You can feel that he really wanted to win this game.
In my opinion, nights like this help shape a goalie like him.
