Maxim Lapierre Sends a Clear Message About David Reinbacher Amid Criticism
Since camp began, David Reinbacher has been a hot topic, with many calling his play disappointing and his preseason showing failing to reassure Canadiens fans.
The young Austrian defenseman, fifth overall pick in 2023, is already facing a lot of criticism regarding his development and his ability to establish himself quickly in the NHL. It may be early, but you know Canadiens fans, they are not the most patient people.
However, Maxim Lapierre made sure to calm things down during his appearance on Tony Marinaro's podcast. The former forward defended the young blueliner's potential while acknowledging that it's true fans are generally not patient enough..
Maxim Lapierre Believes David Reinbacher Remains a Solid Pick for the Montreal Canadiens
Lapierre first wanted to reassure fans. According to him, Reinbacher is not behind in his development, quite the opposite.
"I think Reinbacher is exactly where he's supposed to be.. He's a great, great player. he was a great pick. I think he's going to be a stud in the NHL" - Maxim Lapierre
However, Lapierre also admitted that not everything was perfect.
"People obviously expect more. He needs to regain his confidence and his game form. But once that's resolved, you'll see he's a very smart defenseman."
Here's the clip in question, it's worth a listen:
I agree that Reinbacher has struggled a lot since the start of camp, and some wonder if it would be better to send him down to Laval to get back into rhythm.
Personally, I think Lapierre is right to remind everyone about patience, but I'm eager to see more positive things from Reinbacher.
Time will tell if he can bounce back quickly, but I do believe the public support of a former player like Lapierre is good news for his confidence.
