Alexandre Texier Signs With the Montreal Canadiens
This is excellent news for both sides.
It's worth remembering that the forward had received more lucrative offers than Montreal's, but he and his agent felt the best opportunity was with the Canadiens.
It only took Texier 25 games to convince Canadiens management. It's a great story for the young man.
Texier is 26 years old, born on September 13, 1999, and he was not drafted just to fill a roster spot. He was selected 45th overall in 2017, a second-round pick who quickly crossed the Atlantic. In 2018-19, he also recorded seven points in seven games with Cleveland in the AHL, including five goals.
As early as 2019-20, he collected 13 points in 36 games with Columbus, with six goals and seven assists. That kind of start explains why Montreal wanted another look at him, without putting itself in trouble.
Last season in St. Louis, his production dropped to 11 points in 31 games, including six goals. When you sign a player after a season like that, you want a quick response.
The current extension shows that the Montreal Canadiens believe they've found what they were looking for.
