The Montreal Canadiens earned a hard-fought 2-1 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames, thanks to a brilliant pass from Ivan Demidov to Mike Matheson.
The young Russian once again showed his incredible talent and vision on the ice last night. In overtime, he drew two defenders toward him before making a perfect pass to Matheson, who didn't miss his chance to give the win to the Tricolore.
With this sixth win in eight games, the Canadiens continue their excellent start to the season.
But once again, it was the scene captured after the game that melted hearts across social media.
The scene in the Canadiens' locker room after the win against the Calgary Flames
In a video posted by the organization, we see
Lane Hutson hand over the famous "player of the game" glasses to Mike Matheson after his game-winning goal.
In the background, you can clearly hear
Cole Caufield shouting repeatedly:
"That's a huge goal!" That's a huge goal!!!
I absolutely love hearing that kind of spontaneous reaction - it perfectly shows the chemistry within the group.
However, despite the victory, Martin St-Louis wasn't 100% satisfied:
"I liked some parts of the game, but it was the same story in the second period and we're going to talk about it," said St-Louis, who felt his team made things unnecessarily complicated for themselves.
The game will start even later than last night, with puck drop around 9 p.m... Better grab a coffee to stay awake for the whole thing!
