Since his selection by the Montreal Canadiens, Florian Xhekaj has represented an intriguing player for the future of the team.

Chosen later than some of the organization's other prospects, the forward was initially seen as a long-term project, recognized more for his physical intensity and commitment than for his offensive skills. Yet, his recent development seems to indicate that he could defy expectations.
Eric Engels of Sportsnet recently highlighted this potential. According to him, Xhekaj showed encouraging signs over the past season, notably with increased offensive production and an ability to influence the game far beyond simple statistics. His 24 goals, combined with more than 170 penalty minutes, reflect a rugged player capable of combining intensity and effectiveness.
"I think Florian Xhekaj could be a lot better than anyone thought he'd be when he was picked by the Canadiens. Why? Well, the 24 goals and 175 PIMS is part of it. But the main thing for me is he clearly believes he can be that type of player in the NHL."

"I always say you'll never convince anybody if you aren't convinced yourself. That guy seems convinced to me."

- Eric Engels

Florian Xhekaj continues to shake things up, and his ceiling seems higher than other Canadiens prospects

Beyond the numbers, it's above all the young forward's confidence that stands out. For Engels, one of the most decisive aspects in a prospect's progression remains the conviction that he can reach NHL standards. In Xhekaj's case, that certainty already seems well established. This assurance is reflected in his approach to every shift on the ice, where he displays a competitiveness reminiscent of his brother Arber's style.
His profile as a player capable of scoring while also imposing a physical presence represents a rare asset in modern hockey.
At this stage, nothing is guaranteed, but Florian Xhekaj has already taken an important step: he believes in his potential. And if that confidence translates into consistent results, he could well become one of the pleasant surprises among the organization's prospects.
