Zachary Bolduc to the Laval Rocket? A new proposal is gaining traction

Laval is quietly re-entering the conversation surrounding Zachary Bolduc.
When the Canadiens get their forwards back, the lineup will tighten quickly. There's nothing dramatic about it-it's simply the reality of an organization that wants to maintain depth. In that context, a young player who can be sent down to the Rocket automatically becomes a situation to watch.
Bolduc is far from a desperate case. This season, he has totaled 10 goals and 17 points with the Canadiens, which already places him in an interesting range for a 22-year-old player.
Last year in St. Louis, he scored 19 goals and added 17 assists for 36 points. And over his NHL career, he now has 34 goals and 62 points; that's nothing to dismiss.
Zachary Bolduc with the Laval Rocket temporarily?
We shouldn't forget the context of his arrival in Montreal. The Canadiens acquired him on July 1, 2025, and the organization clearly identified him as an important piece of the group.
"I'm not saying the Canadiens are definitely just days away from sending him down, obviously. But it has to be admitted that if everyone gets healthy and several tough decisions have to be made, the one involving Bolduc will resurface. - Charles-Alexis Brisebois, DLC
Bolduc, a native of Trois-Rivières, arrived in Montreal and got off to an excellent start. He's already shown he can find the back of the net.
That's where the Laval option becomes less of a punishment and more of a tool. Being on a stable line, playing a lot, touching the puck often, then coming back with boosted confidence can help any goal scorer.
The Rocket, with Pascal Vincent, can also provide an environment where a player can reset, without every game turning into a trial.
In the end, if Martin St-Louis decides to keep him in Montreal, that's defensible. But if the Canadiens need to move a piece to create a bit of breathing room, the idea of seeing Bolduc score in Laval before coming back up is hardly a scandal. Laval isn't the end; it's sometimes the most profitable detour.
