In 2022, the Canadiens passed over Shane Wright with the first overall pick in the NHL draft, and it was ultimately the Seattle Kraken who selected him with the 4th overall pick.
It's quite unusual because Wright had been perceived as the top pick in the draft for several years. Unfortunately for him, three players were chosen ahead of him, and he seems to have lost all confidence since then.
It must be said that the Kraken's handling of his development is somewhat questionable. Wright made his NHL debut in 2022-23, but he spent a long time in the press box before being returned to junior hockey.
This year, he was granted an exemption to play in the American Hockey League (AHL), but he hasn't received a call-up despite his strong performances. Wright deserves to be called up, but it's not happening.
Indeed, immediately after the game against the Canadiens, the team recalled two forwards from the Coachella Valley, but Wright wasn't among them.
