Mathias Brunet, the renowned journalist and co-host of the excellent podcast "Processus" along with Simon "The Snake" Boisvert and Anthony Desauniers, shared an interesting piece of information about the Canadiens and Kent Hughes during the 2022 NHL Draft.
Let's recall that Kent Hughes had two first-round picks that year, including the first overall pick, which became
Juraj Slafkovsky.
But Mathias made an interesting comment about the 2022 draft, and the Canadiens are involved.
We all remember that the Habs held the first overall pick as well as the 26th pick in the first round via the trade that sent
Tyler Toffoli to the Calgary Flames.
Already, the Canadiens had acquired the services of
Kirby Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks in a three-team trade that sent
Alexander Romanov to the New York Islanders.
But the Canadiens also tried to move up during this draft. Essentially, the Canadiens had another player they were targeting.
Can we say that the Canadiens wanted a third first-round pick or that
Filip Mesar was the plan B?
Marc-Olivier Cook mentioned:
"Kent Hughes tried to move up a few spots at the end of the first round, but the strategy didn't work." - Marc-Olivier Cook
In your opinion, if the Canadiens have the same draft positions as in 2022, will the Habs make a move?
