Live surprise from the Canadiens' training camp in Brossard
We had a pleasant surprise during the Montreal Canadiens' morning practice today. Indeed, a few hours before the team's departure to Mont-Tremblant, defenseman Mike Matheson was practicing with the rest of the group, notably wearing a regular jersey.
This suggests that the minor discomfort he felt before last Wednesday's game against the Ottawa Senators is not really serious, and he should have the opportunity to play his first preseason game this weekend.
This is great news for the Habs, as the 29-year-old defenseman was a key element in Martin St-Louis' lineup last season, with an impressive haul of 8 goals and 26 assists (34 points) in 48 games.
In addition, Anthony Martineau also confirmed that forwards
Alex Newhook and
Joel Armia, who had missed Monday morning's practice due to injury, are back on the ice.
There's no doubt they'll be ready to start the regular season on October 11th.
"For those wondering, Alex Newhook and Joel Armia are on the ice.
Dvorak is also there, in gray (non-contact)." - Anthony Martineau
We're eagerly looking forward to seeing Alex Newhook in action, who might potentially play on the top line alongside
Nick Suzuki and
Cole Caufield. One thing is certain, expectations will be very high for the young forward as he could play a key role in Montreal's offense.
