Former Montreal Canadiens player Jesperi Kotkaniemi is having a very disappointing season. Despite being given a great promotion, it quickly turned into a nightmare.

KK has been struggling recently, having tallied 9 points in his last 58 games, including none in his last 8. This is far from sufficient for a player earning nearly $5 million per season.

Nevertheless, his coach Rod Brind'Amour decided to place him on the second line, likely aiming to help him regain form and send a message simultaneously.

"The #Canes ahead of taking on the Blackhawks -

Guentzel - Aho - Jarvis
Kotkaniemi - Drury - Necas
Martinook - Staal - Svechnikov
Noesen - Kuznetsov - Fast

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Pesce
Chatfield - DeAngelo

Kochetkov" - Walt Ruff

This golden opportunity quickly turned into a nightmare, as he was ultimately demoted to the fourth line, playing less than 12 minutes in the game.

It's astonishing that a player with his talent and physical presence cannot make an impact on the scoresheet with such a talented team.

His spot in the lineup is far from guaranteed for the playoffs, and he must elevate his game rapidly if he wants to be part of the solution.
