Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell Signs Veteran Defenseman Following Noah Dobson Revelation
Although the Blue Jackets GM ultimately failed to get his hands on Dobson, he is now announcing the arrival of a veteran defenseman in Columbus.
In recent days, Don Waddell made waves by discussing
Noah Dobson with the Montreal Canadiens.
It appears that Mathieu Darche and the New York Islanders wanted to acquire
Dmitry Voronkov, but the Jackets' management refused to include him in the discussions.
Waddell insists: if he had agreed to include Voronkov in the trade, Noah Dobson would have been headed to Columbus, not Montreal.
"The name of Dmitry Voronkov came up in trade talks for Noah Dobson but we always said no. The information that was reported was incorrect. If we had agreed to trade Voronkov, we would have been the ones to acquire Dobson, but we were not ready to let him go."

Don Waddell and the Columbus Blue Jackets offer a professional tryout to veteran Brendan Smith
Having failed to bring Dobson to Columbus, Waddell has now offered a professional tryout to veteran Brendan Smith.
Team Update
"We've signed veteran D Brendan Smith to a professional tryout contract."
At 36 years old, the defenseman has played for the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, and Dallas Stars.
It will be interesting to see if Smith can succeed with the Jackets, as he has slowed down significantly in recent years.
