A Recent High First-Round Pick Is Causing Turmoil Among The Flyers, And Daniel Brière Doesn't Understand It At All

A fairly nebulous and surprising situation has occurred with the Philadelphia Flyers in recent days. A recent high draft pick has caused trouble by turning up his nose at an invitation from the team.
Indeed, the 5th overall pick in the 2022 draft, Cutter Gauthier, did not show up at the organization's development camp, even though he was invited by the team that drafted him.
General Manager Daniel Brière tried to comment on what was going on, but even his responses were not really reassuring to the Flyers' fans.
"Cutter was invited, but he decided not to come. We assume it's because he played a lot of hockey with his participation in the World Championship." Daniel Brière
What seems even more surprising in this situation is not necessarily Gauthier's absence, as he had an excellent World Championship with professional players. The big problem is the blatant lack of communication between this promising prospect and the Flyers' management.
Imagine for a moment if this happened with the Canadiens, that a Lane Hutson refused to report to the development camp and gave no reason for his absence to Kent Hughes, it would have created a shock wave.
I don't think there is cause for concern for Philly, Gauthier is still likely to sign his first professional contract at the end of the next NCAA season. However, the relationship between the player and his organization is starting off in a very strange way.
