Although Kent Hughes has finally managed to trade goaltender Casey DeSmith, once and for all resolving the goaltender situation for the Canadiens, the addition of Tanner Pearson creates a new problem for the general manager.

Indeed, the Canadiens now have 15 forwards under contract for the upcoming season, which could undoubtedly limit opportunities for the young prospects in the organization. However, journalist Stu Cowan shared some very interesting information via his Twitter account in the last few hours. According to him, it wouldn't be surprising if Joel Armia doesn't start the season in Montreal.
"I would not be surprised if Armia does not start the season with the Montreal Canadiens." - Stu Cowan

Wow! If such a scenario were to materialize, it's a safe bet that many Canadiens fans would be very happy!
With a contract of $3.4 million for the next two seasons, it is simply unthinkable that another NHL team would want to acquire him. However, since the Finnish forward is not in the team's plans, could Kent Hughes consider sending him to the AHL to allow Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Jesse Ylonen to get more playing time?
Honestly, such a scenario could be hugely beneficial for Canadiens players who will be fighting for quality minutes this season. Inconsistent and too often invisible on the ice, Joel Armia clearly does not deserve a regular spot to be automatically granted to him due to his veteran status.
With the array of talented forwards who will be looking to force management's hand, the Finn better prove during training camp that he will be an essential part of Martin St-Louis's lineup if he truly wants to start the season with the Canadiens.
