Injuries hit the Montreal Canadiens early and hard at the start of the season. The Canadiens lost Kirby Dach for the entire campaign, Kaiden Guhle for two weeks, David Savard for six to eight weeks, and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard for an indefinite period.

Guhle has returned to play, but there's another defenseman who hasn't appeared in the lineup. Chris Wideman hasn't played a game yet due to a back injury. According to Renaud Lavoie, his season may well be over.
"According to Renaud Lavoie, it's not going to be tomorrow morning that the defenseman will be back in town. During the first intermission tonight, he revealed that the chances of seeing Wideman play this season are 'quite slim.'"

Wideman is in the final year of his contract, and if he doesn't return to the game to prove himself and demonstrate to other teams that he deserves another contract, his career could be in jeopardy.
The season is still young, but Wideman is far from making a comeback. He's not even with the team. We saw him in St. Louis because his family residence is there.
The Canadiens are losing a valuable teammate as number 6 is greatly appreciated in the locker room. Even if he could come back to play, I'm not sure he would, but his presence is certainly missed by young players like Cole Caufield, who is very close friends with him.
