During his end-of-season press conference with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Corey Perry made a huge statement about his future in the NHL and his intentions for next year.
As the veteran forward becomes an unrestricted free agent, he mentioned the following to the media on site:
"I still have a lot to offer an NHL team, I'm still capable, and I want to continue playing and helping young players. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks and make a decision after that." - Corey Perry
Wow! In addition to confirming his interest in continuing to play, Perry added a very relevant detail by revealing he wants to "help young players."
Of course, with such a statement, a direct connection is made with the Montreal Canadiens, who would have a significant need for good veterans with excellent leadership, similar to what Perry can provide, which is to guide the young core of the team.
As Renaud Lavoie had recently revealed, Perry often asks for news about what is happening within the Canadiens organization, and he stays in touch with young players in the organization such as Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. This is an interesting observation, especially since he has only been in Montreal for one season.
However, if we go by the comments, Lightning fans are also unanimous. They absolutely want their club to extend Perry.
One thing is certain, Perry's return could greatly help the Canadiens' rebuild, as he brought high-quality leadership during the only season he played in the Tricolore uniform. He would be a valuable addition to guide the young Habs players.
