Dramatic turn in San Jose? New information could impact the draft
With five days left until the draft, there are many speculations in the NHL about the potential selections of the teams in the top-5 of this batch.
The choice at the 5th rank of the Canadiens has caused a lot of discussion, but it is not the only one throughout the league. Apart from the Blackhawks' first choice with
Connor Bedard, the rest of the draft seems increasingly unpredictable.
Kent Hughes and the CH are unfortunately the last of the five to choose, and they will have to adjust based on the decisions of the teams ahead of them.
The plan could quickly be abandoned on the upcoming 28th of June, as new information surfaced regarding the possible choice the San Jose Sharks would make with their 4th overall selection.
Indeed, the Sharks are also considering another American player apart from
Will Smith, as the name of
Ryan Leonard is being seriously studied within the organization, according to The Mercury News.
Not only is Leonard a possible choice for the Canadiens, assuming the top-4 would be composed of Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith, but if he is selected earlier, this could mean that Hughes could potentially see a player like Smith slip to his rank of selection.
Of course, this would be a huge turn of events that could become extremely profitable for the Montreal Canadiens.
