The director general of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, will have very important decisions to make in the coming days to finalize his roster of 23 players for the opening game of the season against the Leafs.

The surplus of forwards could notably complicate the task for the general manager, and even prevent some young players such as Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Jesse Ylonen from securing a spot in Martin St-Louis's lineup. However, the two previously mentioned players could also force the management's hand by taking the position of a veteran.
Obviously, one name quickly comes to mind, namely Joel Armia, who clearly no longer fits into the organization's plans. Furthermore, the Finnish forward has shown absolutely nothing in the preseason games to justify that he deserved to keep his role with the Canadiens.
Moreover, according to comments mentioned by journalist Stu Cowan, it would not be surprising if Joel Armia's days with the Tricolore are numbered. Indeed, he believes that the 30-year-old forward will likely not start the season with the main team, suggesting that he might be put on waivers or maybe even traded.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Joel Armia doesn't start the season in Montreal." - Stu Cowan

With the start of the season just a few days away, a trade seems unlikely, given that he earns a salary of $3.4 million for the next two seasons. However, knowing that Joel Armia no longer has a place in the CH lineup, Kent Hughes might consider the option of placing him on waivers in order to save a portion of his salary this year.
Such a situation would allow the organization's young players to gain NHL experience, all while parting with a player who clearly no longer has the motivation to give his best night after night.
One thing is certain, it will be very interesting to see the decision that the director general of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, will make in this matter!
