As the Memorial Cup is set to begin tomorrow in Canadian junior hockey, excellent news has just emerged regarding one of the prospects of the Montreal Canadiens, Owen Beck.
Thanks to a decision by the NHL, the Canadiens' 33rd pick in the 2022 draft will be able to participate in the tournament, even though he is technically still suspended in the Ontario hockey league, as he has only served one of his two-game suspension.
According to an excellent article from Montreal Hockey Now, it appears that the NHL's Player Safety Department oversees all disciplinary measures during the Memorial Cup, including referee supervision, rather than the CHL, which is the governing body of junior hockey in Canada.
We can therefore greatly thank the NHL for this decision, which will give Canadiens fans the opportunity to see two prospects from the organization, Beck with the Peterborough Petes, and Jared Davidson with the Seattle Thunderbirds.
