Kent Hughes had a strong offseason with his transactions and signings, but he ran out of time to fully address the goaltending situation.

It was during training camp that he managed to trade Casey DeSmith for Tanner Pearson and a draft pick, but there are still three goalies on the team, and it's a problem.
For Eric Engels, who was responding to a fan's question about whether a trade was imminent in this regard, it's quite clear:
"Hard to see it otherwise. Going to be tough to sneak Primeau through waivers, unless a couple of other goalies move to teams in need."

- Eric Engels

It has been known for a while that there is a lot of interest in Cayden Primeau, so he will likely be claimed if his name is placed on waivers. But the question that arises is why he hasn't been traded yet?
It seems that Kent Hughes has not yet made his decision. He is known to have a strong liking for the young Primeau, and Jake Allen is starting to become very valuable. In the context of wanting to build for the future, it would be Allen who would be traded.
However, Kent Hughes stated emphatically at the end of the last season that he wants the team to start winning and competing for the playoffs this year. In that scenario, Jake Allen would be the one to keep.
One thing is certain; a trade will need to happen soon. If indeed several teams have a strong interest in Primeau, offers will not be long in coming.
