For hockey players, except for the goalies, playing on the power play is like giving a candy to a child. It has to be earned, and it's a nice reward.
There's one forward who has been in a scoring drought since the start of the year, and that's Josh Anderson. Not only is he not appearing on the scoresheet, but he's making careless mistakes that hurt the team, and he doesn't always display the energy that characterizes him so well.
So, Martin St. Louis is trying to wake up his veteran in every way possible, and one of the messages he sent was by removing Anderson from the first power play unit. In Tuesday's game against the New Jersey Devils, Tanner Pearson took his place, and it was well-deserved in his case.
To be effective, Josh Anderson needs to play physical, use his speed, and his shot. We know he's a streaky player, so let's hope things start to click for him soon.
