In the past few hours, the Laval Rocket announced a rather surprising piece of news for the 2023-2024 season. Indeed, Quebec defenseman Miguel Tourigny and forward John Parker-Jones have been transferred to the Lions of Trois-Rivières in the ECHL.
The former player of Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst and Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand had, however, had an excellent training camp, where he had significantly distinguished himself with his offensive skills. However, given the numerous defensemen within the organization, there simply was no room to offer him quality minutes in the American League.
He will therefore continue his development with the Trois-Rivières team, where he will undoubtedly be the team's best defenseman. Although it is disappointing to see that he will not be with the CH's farm team this year, a stint in the ECHL could be very beneficial for him. He will get plenty of playing time and can continue his progress in hopes of potentially securing a spot with the Rocket in 2024-2025.
Miguel Tourigny had notably had an excellent season last year in the first division in Slovakia, collecting 6 goals and 20 assists (26 points) in 44 games with Dukla de Trencin. There is no doubt that he will be a key element in the Lions' success in the coming months.
