"The reality is that Mailloux had a very challenging start to the season with the Laval Rocket after making a very good impression at the Montreal Canadiens' training camp.
On the ice, 'he wasn't comfortable,' said head coach Jean-François Houle. And it wasn't much better off the ice.
"At the beginning of the year, the maturity we see today wasn't there," Houle revealed to the media. [...]
Mailloux, likely used to dominating by relying on his junior talent, did not behave like a professional, and his teammates did not hesitate to point it out, sometimes in a passive-aggressive manner.
"The guys went after him a couple of times," Houle said. "I think that wakes you up as a player. They cut his laces at one point because he was always late. He got the lesson: 'Okay, I can't be late anymore.' Little things like that can be good for team spirit. It shows that a young player has to step up and respect the rules."
