Sean Monahan traded by the Montreal Canadiens? A significant statement has just surfaced
Last summer, Kent Hughes pulled off quite a trade by acquiring Sean Monahan and a first-round pick in exchange for future considerations. However, an injury to the forward, who has only played 25 games in 2022-2023, has prevented the general manager from executing his plan.
Indeed, according to many experts, the Montreal organization had agreed to absorb Monahan's contract in hopes of trading him at the trade deadline to possibly obtain another first-round pick or a quality prospect.
However, the scenario could favor the Canadiens this year. Knowing that the 28-year-old forward will only earn an annual salary of $1.985 million, several general managers will be interested in acquiring him if he remains healthy and makes a significant offensive contribution.
In fact, during his appearance on the podcast "La Poche Bleue," Jean-Charles Lajoie made a major statement about Monahan's future in Montreal. According to him, if the former Calgary Flame stays healthy, the chances of him finishing the season with the Canadiens are very slim, if not nonexistent.
"Jeff Gorton's rosary is on the clothesline. Kent Hughes's is too. Both are praying that Monahan stays healthy. If he stays healthy, he will produce. And if he produces, we will succeed in doing what we couldn't do last year, namely trade him. If he produces, by March, he's gone." - Jean-Charles Lajoie

Moreover, all signs indicate that Sean Monahan could have a very successful season, having accumulated 6 goals and 11 assists (17 points) in 25 games last year. He should have an important role in Martin St-Louis's lineup, probably playing on the team's top two lines and on the power play.
