With injuries continuing to accumulate for the Canadiens, there will soon be a shortage of forwards in Montreal. Kirby Dach is out for the year, Alex Newhook for three months, Raphaël Harvey-Pinard for a few more weeks, and now Tanner Pearson.
If another forward were to be added to this list, a call-up would be inevitable, especially since Mitchell Stephens is already playing with the main club.
With 22 points in 23 games, good for 10th place in the league's scoring race, Gignac would not be undeserving of a call-up, but he currently has a one-way AHL contract.
To be called up, Gignac will need to sign a two-way contract, which should be a formality. It would be a significant accomplishment for the forward to play a second game in the NHL, having already worn the Devils' uniform once.
