The Canadiens may have three goaltenders in their ranks currently, but none of the three are perceived as potential future goaltenders for the team. When thinking long term, it's clear that the solution will likely come from elsewhere.

There's the young Jacob Fowler who has been impressing, but at 18 years old, it's still early to place such high hopes on him.

For some time now, experts have been unanimous in saying that the next future goaltender for the team will likely come through a trade. A young player with immense potential who is knocking on the door of the NHL.

The Florida Panthers recently sent Spencer Knight to their AHL affiliate, and according to Marco D'Amico's opinion, Kent Hughes should try to acquire him if he intends to make another trade akin to the Kirby Dach trade.

"If the Canadiens want to take a "Kirby Dach" gamble on a young goaltender, Spencer Knight would be my target.

Just sent to the minors by the Panthers." - Marco D'Amico

If Kent Hughes were indeed tempted to acquire him, it could be a real coup. Additionally, he has a good rapport with Cole Caufield, as they played together in the American program.
