With the arrival of the recent acquisition Alex Newhook in Montreal, the Canadiens not only find themselves with a surplus of centers, but also with a surplus of attackers with NHL contracts for next year.

The Canadiens currently have 13 players under contract on offense, and this total excludes Newhook, Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, Denis Gurianov, who are all restricted free agents, and even Alex Belzile, who could make a return with the big club.

It's clear that Kent Hughes' job will be to free up space to make room in the lineup.

Unfortunately for the CH, Mike Hoffman, Joel Armia, and Rem Pitlick are currently surplus to requirements in the squad, but they have no value on the trade market.

Which brings us to Dvorak. He could be one of the players sacrificed by Hughes in the next few hours. At least, that's what Sportsnet's insider, Elliotte Friedman, claims.

"It seems there's no longer a role for him in Montreal now. They have so many center players. I think he's one of the names that we need to keep an eye on in the coming days."

With a contract still valid for two seasons with an annual average of $4.45M, it's clear that the Habs will never recoup the investment of a first and second round pick for him, which was paid by Marc Bergevin in the summer of 2021.

However, a defensive center like Dvorak could certainly attract offers from teams looking for depth on their third line.

Could Hughes at least get a second round pick for D-Vo? That's still a possibility. A trade involving him is to be watched in the next few hours.
