Corey Perry is now a free agent. His contract has been terminated by the Blackhawks, but no criminal charges have been filed, and the NHL has not suspended him.
Insider Frank Seravalli, who is well-informed on the matter, has just confirmed that several teams have inquired about the possibility of signing Perry in the last few hours.
After all, if Evander Kane could sign with the Oilers after the saga he went through, and Milan Lucic is still under contract with Boston, why wouldn't a team sign Perry...
In my opinion, the answer is no. And I don't even base my response on what happened in Chicago. Perry is still a very good player capable of helping a team, but the Canadiens are in a rebuilding phase, and I prefer that the young players gain experience.
If Kent Hughes follows his usual plan, he won't sign Corey, but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up somewhere in the NHL by tomorrow. If he wants to, as he may want to take a step back.
