Kent Hughes decided to stay cautious on the opening day of the free agent market, as he did not make any major acquisitions.

He mentioned in his press conference, particularly regarding Jonathan Marchessault, that he didn't want to sign a veteran for too long a term.

The reality is that Hughes avoided pitfalls and made the decision to focus on the future, while remaining patient, to make room for young players and possibly sign a free agent another year, such as Leon Draisaitl next year.

In the meantime, he still strengthened the Laval Rocket with some good acquisitions, including Laurent Dauphin, Alex Barré-Boulet, and of course, the very solid Vincent Arseneau.

The 6'2" and 220 lbs tough guy simply fears no one, and he has proven it many times. It's the others who fear him.

Matt Rempe arrived with the Rangers and fought against the best in the NHL. Well, he had been beaten by Arseneau in the AHL.

He is very solid and will bring not only energy to the Rocket but also experience and a presence in the locker room.

"Big reinforcement in Laval!

Having often seen Vincent Arseneau play in Shawinigan, I can assure you that fans in Laval will love him!

I felt like the boards were going to collapse every time he delivered a hit!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

With the young team that the Rocket will have, it takes a guy like Arseneau to protect them and create space. It's a very good acquisition.
