Juraj Slafkovsky signs a monster contract with the Canadiens
Juraj Slafkovsky was on his first day of eligibility to sign a contract extension with the Canadiens, and now it's a done deal.
Indeed, the Slovak has signed for 8 years at $7.6 million per year. This means he will be paid less than his teammates Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, despite his high ceiling.
"Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes announced Monday that the team has agreed to terms on an eight-season contract extension (2025-2026 to 2032-2033) worth $60.8 million with forward Juraj Slafkovsk. The deal carries an average annual value of $7.6 million."
The Canadiens' offensive core is now signed long-term for under $8 million per year. Another strong move by Kent Hughes.
This is also a clear indication that Slaf wants to stay in Montreal and is happy to play for the Canadiens. He could have waited until the end of next season to increase his value, but he preferred to settle this as soon as possible.
Kent Hughes has also ensured to sign a young promising player instead of giving too much money to a veteran nearing the end of their career, which fits very well with his plan.
