According to Pierre LeBrun, the Montreal Canadiens could be among the teams interested in Nazem Kadri.
The name Nazem Kadri has resurfaced once again in trade rumors, and this time, it's the Montreal Canadiens who find themselves at the center of the discussion.
As reported by Pierre LeBrun, journalist for the TSN and RDS networks, the Canadiens could be an intriguing destination for the veteran Calgary Flames center.
The journalist stated on RDS that Kadri represents a player who could genuinely interest general manager Kent Hughes, especially if the asking price becomes reasonable.
Pierre LeBrun raises the idea of a possible fit between Nazem Kadri and the Montreal Canadiens
In his segment, LeBrun explained it all:
"The Canadiens, in my opinion, could be a team that would be interesting for Kadri."
- Pierre LeBrun
At 35 years old, Kadri is having a good start to the season, despite the unstable (not to say dreadful) situation with the Flames.
In my opinion, he's still producing offensively and showing an intensity that fits well with the culture Martin St-Louis is trying to build in Montreal.
"I think the best fit for Kadri, the Montreal Canadiens. They can use his experience, they could use his grittiness that he brings come playoff time, and they need a second-line centre iceman. Perfect fit for Kadri in Montreal1
- Carlo Colaiacovo, TSN
His $7 million-per-year contract through 2029 remains heavy, but as LeBrun points out, the rapidly rising salary cap makes that number less and less concerning for several teams.
Personally, I believe that this kind of acquisition could accelerate the progress of Montreal's young core without hurting its chemistry, since the price to pay likely wouldn't be too high.
I'm very curious to see what Hughes will do with this...
