Canadiens Coach Martin St. Louis Sends a Clear Message to Patrik Laine
At 27 years old, Patrik Laine is preparing to play his 10th season in the National Hockey League. A former 1st-round pick, 2nd overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 Draft, he has totaled 224 goals and 421 points in 532 games.
Since his NHL debut, he has only completed two full 82-game seasons, and over the last five campaigns, he has averaged just about 50 games per year. Laine has unfortunately faced many challenges and has missed a lot of hockey,
but he's ready to prove the doubters wrong. The past few months have been far from easy for him. Shortly after being traded to the Montreal Canadiens, he learned of the tragic death of his former teammate Johnny Gaudreau.
In 2024-25, the Finnish forward was happy to get a fresh start in Montreal after being part of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
However, he was ultimately sidelined at the start of the season due to a significant injury and played his first game on December 3, 2024, against the New York Islanders at the Bell Centre.
Martin St. Louis delivered a powerful message to Patrik Laine after his first goal with the Montreal Canadiens
In his very first game with the Habs, Patrik Laine scored a goal against the Islanders, and Martin St. Louis was visibly emotional when speaking to his forward.
In a new video shared by the Montreal organization on social media, we see the coach say the following:
"In my eyes, you inspired me. Thank you very much."
- Martin St. Louis
While his critics continue to target him, I believe he'll give us an impressive season in 2025-26. One thing's for sure-he absolutely has the talent to do it.
