Canadiens issue post-trade announcement following Phillip Danault acquisition
It is moving again with the Canadiens this morning, and it is drawing attention.
Friday, the organization officially completed the acquisition of forward Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings.
Kent Hughes sent a 2026 second-round pick (acquired from Columbus) to complete the deal, and immediately followed it with a second move: Jared Davidson was reassigned to Laval to remain roster-compliant.
The 32-year-old veteran arrives with 5 assists in 30 games this season, and no goals so far. We also recall that in 2018-2019 in Montreal, he signed his second-best season with 53 points, including 12 goals.

We are honestly eager to hear his comments, especially with everything this return represents in Montreal.
On the contract front, Danault is still under a six-year deal totaling 33 M$. His cap hit is 5.5 M$, and he has the current season plus one more remaining before becoming a free agent in 2027.
This year, his total salary is $5.75M, then $4.25M the following season. In his NHL career, he has played 741 games, with 125 goals and 399 points.
With the Kings, he also recorded a 54-point season in 82 games in 2022-2023, which reminds us that he has already been able to produce offense.
The timing is perfect for everyone to listen, because Montreal is playing for high stakes these days and every detail matters.
