Controversial call on Phillip Danault leaves St-Louis and Canadiens fans furious at Bell Centre
The Montreal Canadiens are playing an excellent game against the Florida Panthers, but the crowd grew frustrated after a baffling and controversial decision by the officials.
The Canadiens are continuing their excellent run tonight against the Panthers.
Samuel Montembeault is showing that he can be the team's number-one goaltender, and Martin St-Louis' group is solid in front of him.
That said, a completely strange scene was spotted in the third period involving Phillip Danault.
Phillip Danault receives a penalty for an action he is not responsible for
On the sequence, it is clearly visible that it was not Phillip Danault's stick that made contact with the Panthers player's face. We saw the play on the Centre Bell jumbotron, and the crowd was not happy.
"Phillip Danault receives a high-sticking penalty for a high stick that doesn't appear to be his" - TSN
The referees even explained the sequence to Martin St-Louis.
"Looks like the officials just explained to Martin St. Louis that they fell for Lundell faking being high-sticked. Two-minute minor not reviewable, so Panthers get a power play."

There were many reactions.
"Everyone in the Bell Centre knows it's not a penalty, but they still call it one."
Despite the penalty, the Montreal Canadiens managed to hold firm while shorthanded, and there were no consequences.
Finally, the fans made their displeasure known, and the atmosphere at the Centre Bell is more than electrifying.
In the end, the Habs close out the game in beautiful fashion!
